Elizabeth: Love, Presence, and a Life Well Held

Updated: 2 days ago

Some stories arrive quietly—and stay with you.

Elizabeth’s is one of them.

She came to Emberlight near the end of her life and knew almost immediately she had found where she wanted to be. Before stepping inside, before learning the details, she felt it—in the land, the stillness, the sense of welcome. A place shaped with intention. A place where love leads.

In this first video, Elizabeth shares why she chose Emberlight for her final months, and what it meant to feel unconditional love and presence at the end of life.

Elizabeth’s story, shared through the eyes of her daughter, Melanie, was a life shaped by curiosity, resilience, and deep connection. A mother who made room for wonder. A grandmother who taught awe. A human who lived with openness and kindness—and was met the same way in her final chapter. You can read Melanie’s story here.

Elizabeth had the pleasure of having only one grandson, Liam, and was a caregiver and companion to him through his 11 years. When asked what wisdom she wished to pass on to her grandchild, Elizabeth didn’t offer a long speech or grand philosophy. She offered something simpler. Something truer.

Love. And be kind.

In this second video, Elizabeth speaks not only to grandchild Liam, but to all of us—about staying open, choosing kindness, and letting love guide the way.

Elizabeth was accompanied in her final year by her beloved, Morris Letsinger.

Morris shares her journey through illness, their last memories together, and his own process of grief and loss after her passing. Read their full final love story below.

This is the heart of Emberlight: Care rooted in presence. Dying held in community. Love that remains.

If this story has moved you, we invite you to help keep this light burning. Your gift, in honor of a beloved, will help ensure that more families are met with presence, dignity, and love at life’s most tender threshold.
