About the Event

Come gather together with us at CCLD to remember those who have crossed the veil. This year’s celebration is especially significant given the grief and loss of lives - humans, communities, animals and trees - in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

We will explore traditions around the world for honoring the dead, those who died or are still missing from the hurricane, and our own lost one ancestors from whose lives we spring.

Activities for the day include a meditative labyrinth walk to remember those we have known and loved. We will collectively be creating an altar on the hearth and mantle of the Sanctuary fireplace to remember those who have passed. There will be a craft project for adults and kids alike to honor this tradition that is celebrated across the globe. Followed by a ceremony to honor those who have lost their lives during Helene, grieve the lost lives around the world, invoke the names of dear ones no longer with us, and honor those who have died with us at CCLD. Finally, we'll end with singing and feasting on a potluck of finger foods to munch on.

We will share both grief and joy as we remember those we have cared for, those we have known and loved and those who died from this disaster and others.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Yourself and a partner, friend, or children

  • A potluck dish to share of finger food (cheese & crackers, fruit, veggies and dip, nuts, etc)

  • Photos, symbolic objects or mementos to add to our ancestor altar (you will be able to take these back home with you)

  • A mint tin (e.g. Altoids), small lidded box, or box of matches to make an alter

  • A blanket to sit on outside if it's a nice day
