Appalachia Death Rituals

Join a death midwife, funeral home director, and a natural burial educator to share death care practices from this region’s past. Inspired by cultural traditions brought over from other lands and fit into what this fierce landscape allowed, these practices provided rich support for grieving families and the transition of the dead. In the mix of locals and transplants that make up Appalachia now, what strengthening of community life could be fed by speaking to its past and current traditions? What have the ancestors of this place been waiting for us to once again say and do?
