Tending our Waters Through the 5 Gates of Grief

Fall 2023

This Fall, Larisa and Erin are embarking on a journey of grief tending in service of wholeness.  We invite you to come along...

“Grief is the best friend of Praise, because Praise is a grandiose griever! Grief and Praise are renters whose landlord is Love” —- Martin Prechtel

As Fall approaches and the veils grow thin, we invite you on a journey into the sacred water of personal and collective grief.

We are carrying a weight, can you feel it?

It is the weight of ungrieved grief

We have been through so much in this life (and so much in these last few years)

Rarely has there been space or time or community to properly care for our accumulated grief

To lovingly begin to soften this weight we all carry is our aspiration

We will tend these waters by leaning into Francis Weller’s work on the ‘gates of grief’. Stepping through each of the 5 gates, we will have opportunity to unpack our places of grief and longing. Tending grief, we open into vistas of praise, joy, and unconditional love. Tending grief, we re-mem-ber our humanity.

Grief has never been a solo act or private affair; for grief to have proper expression, it must be held in a “village”. During our 7 week journey, we will create and cultivate a grief village. We will build this village with the clay of ritual, group sharing, song, poetry, writing and of course, Continuum dives.

May we become a tribe that knows how to grieve well for then we will become a society that knows how to live and die well.
