About the Event

The Buddha taught that as long as we are still under the power of mental defilements, “birth, sickness, old age, and death” will be experienced as  “the four rivers of suffering and stress.” Thus there are many teachings and practices given by the Buddha to help us navigate through these life (and death) experiences. Specifically, Buddhist cultures have a rich array of practices and observances surrounding the process of dying, the moment of death and beyond.   Dr. Lye will offer a two-session short course on practical and helpful Buddhist guidelines on how to prepare ourselves and others for the process of dying, what the living can do immediately following the death of a loved one, and other pre- and post-death observances. This course is open to everyone with an interest in how Buddhists handle these matters of dying, death and post-death.
